Giftidea.com helps you find gifts and browse products from retailers such as Amazon. This policy explains how information is handled when you use our website, including our United States and Australian pages.

You can browse without creating an account. Purchases take place on the retailer’s website, where its own privacy policy applies.

Information handled when you use the site

• Your gift preferences. The gift finder uses your selected region, occasion, recipient category, age group and budget to display relevant products. These selections can appear in the page URL. You do not need to provide a recipient’s name or other identifying information.
• Your wishlist. Saved products are stored in your browser using local storage. This includes product details and the product’s region. The current wishlist does not require an account and is not synced to an account or across devices.
• Searches and browsing. The current site search matches your search text against our product catalogue in your browser. Page addresses, including any preferences in them, may also be visible to hosting and third-party services when those pages are requested.
• Technical information. Our hosting provider and services loaded by the site may receive your IP address, browser and device details, requested page, referring page and the date and time of a visit. This information can be used to deliver the site, diagnose problems and protect against misuse.
• Messages you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, the contents of your message and any information or attachments you choose to provide. Please avoid sending payment details or sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your request.

How information is used

Information is used to display gift suggestions, remember your wishlist, operate and protect the website, understand or resolve technical issues, respond to enquiries and meet applicable legal obligations. Third-party services may also use information for their own purposes, as explained below.

The gift finder currently uses your chosen filters to match products in our catalogue. An AI prompt feature is not currently enabled. If we introduce a feature that sends prompts or personal information to an AI provider, we will explain that use and update this policy before it is introduced.

Browser storage, cookies and your choices

Local storage keeps your wishlist and selected country/region on the browser and device you use. The saved region keeps menus, links and gift-finder settings consistent as you navigate. It remains there until you remove saved items or clear the site’s stored data. Clearing all browser data can also remove cookies and preferences set by other services.

Third-party services may use cookies, pixels or similar technologies to recognise a browser, measure activity or personalise advertising. You can manage cookies and site storage through your browser settings, block third-party cookies and use available tracking protection. Some features may work differently if these technologies are blocked.

Removing a wishlist item removes it from the saved wishlist in that browser. To clear all saved site data, use your browser’s site-data controls for Giftidea.com. This does not delete information already held by independent third-party services.

Shareaholic and social sharing

Our product pages use Shareaholic to provide sharing buttons. Loading a product page can send technical and browsing information to Shareaholic even if you do not click a sharing button. Shareaholic and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to measure visits and support personalised advertising on this and other websites.

Read the Shareaholic privacy policy and manage its advertising preferences through Shareaholic’s privacy choices. You can also visit the Digital Advertising Alliance’s opt-out tool for participating companies. These choices generally apply to a particular browser or device and may need to be renewed after cookies are cleared. Opting out of personalised advertising does not necessarily stop all collection or all advertising.

If you choose to share a product, the relevant social platform may receive the page address and information associated with your interaction. Its own privacy policy applies to that activity.

Amazon, affiliate links and other websites

Some product links are affiliate links. We may receive a commission if you make a qualifying purchase, at no extra cost to you. Links can contain an affiliate identifier so a retailer can attribute a visit or purchase to Giftidea.com. Retailers may use cookies or other tracking technologies for that purpose.

When you open Amazon or another retailer, it handles your visit, account, order, payment and delivery information under its own policies. Giftidea.com does not process your payment or collect your card details through this website. See Amazon’s privacy notice on the Amazon website for your region.

Our site also links to other websites. This policy covers Giftidea.com; it does not replace the privacy policies of those independent websites.

Who may receive information

Information may be handled by providers that host and secure the website, deliver third-party features or provide email services. Shareaholic, social platforms and retailers may receive information directly from your browser when their services load or you follow a link.

We may disclose information where required by law, to respond to valid legal requests, or where necessary to address fraud or protect people and the website. If ownership of the website changes, information held in connection with its operation may be transferred, subject to applicable law and appropriate privacy protections.

We do not sell your locally stored wishlist as a customer list. Third-party advertising activity may be treated as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under some US state laws, even without a direct payment for the information. The third-party choices above are relevant to that activity.

Where information is handled

Online services can operate across borders. Providers may process information in the United States, Australia or other countries where they or their service providers operate. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from those where you live. Shareaholic’s policy and each retailer’s privacy notice explain their own processing arrangements. Retention and security

Your wishlist stays in your browser as described above. We retain enquiries and other information we hold only for as long as needed to respond, operate the website, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations. Hosting logs and information held independently by third-party services follow those providers’ retention practices.

We take reasonable steps to protect information we handle and limit access to those who need it. No website, email system or storage method can guarantee complete security.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may be able to request access to information we hold about you, ask for correction or deletion, obtain a copy, object to certain uses, or withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Some US residents may also have rights concerning targeted advertising, sale or sharing, and to appeal a denied request. Exercising an applicable privacy right will not result in unlawful discrimination.

Email [email protected] to make a request. Explain the request and how you interacted with the site, but do not send unnecessary sensitive information. We may need to verify your identity and clarify the request. We will respond within the time required by applicable law and explain any lawful limits or reasons we cannot fulfil it. Requests about data held independently by a retailer or social platform should also be directed to that provider.

Children’s privacy

Giftidea.com is intended for people choosing gifts, rather than for children to submit personal information. Gift categories for babies and children describe the intended gift recipient. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Each body has its own jurisdiction, eligibility requirements and complaint process. Submitting a report does not guarantee an individual investigation or a particular outcome.
